BLUEMANTLE / KILMARTIN GRANTED PLANNING FOR MILLER ARCADE

Bluemantle / Kilmartin have been granted planning permission for a multi-million pound refurbishment of the Grade 2 listed Miller Arcade in Preston. The scheme will bring back into use over 30,000 sq ft of high quality office accommodation and three new leisure units.

The Miller Arcade is one of Preston’s most historic buildings, situated in the heart of the city on the corner of Fishergate/Church Street, facing the Town Hall. The building currently provides over 50,000 sq ft of office and retail accommodation over five floors, incorporating the basement, ground and upper three floors. The new offices will offer modern, flexible and contemporary space targeted at professional occupiers in Preston city centre wanting a location adjacent to the main shopping amenities and transport interchanges as well as the Courts, Winckley Square and key public sector buildings. Planning permission for the Tithesbarn scheme has now been submitted and the Miller Arcade will undoubtedly benefit from its proximity to the new development.

Mark Caldwell of Bluemantle comments: “We are delighted to have secured planning permission and together with Kilmartin look forward to restoring this landmark building to its former glory. The new facilities that will be created will not only support Preston’s existing retail and leisure business but will also help attract new companies to the area. By improving the Arcade’s existing offer, we will be able to play our part in the continuing development of Preston city centre.”

Bluemantle / Kilmartin acquired the MiIller Arcade from its previous owners, Maple Grove Developments in a £8.6 million deal earlier this year. Work is due to start on site early 2009.
